E-business takes IPsec-based VPNs to a different scale by adding "interenterprise" to the mix, but again, this is primarily site-to-site and remote access. As enterprises look inward to the insider threat, VPN implementations increasingly will be required to take intranet IPsec into account. This session examines issues and requirements that emerge as IPsec-based VPNs become the mainstream method of communicating over IP.

RÉSUMÉ SUMMARY
**********************************
ylian.saint-hilaire@intel.com
Ylian Saint-Hilaire works since September 1998 for the Intel Technology and Research Labs
(TRL) in Hillsboro, OR
and previously worked in the Intel Architecture Labs.
Intel Labs are involved in a wide range of technical areas to pioneer the innovations that will enrich our lives both at work and at home.
Ylian has been involved in some key areas, including network performance & security,
wireless mobile roaming devices and wired/wireless PC attached devices.
Ylian designs and develops software to demonstrate new concepts and to be incorporated into Intel and industry products.
As part of his work, Ylian is often involved with outside partners and standards organizations.
He regularly represents Intel at public and private conferences and demonstrations.
He is one of the top young inventors at Intel regularly creating dozens of disclosures and patent filings per year.
Most of these patent filings (30+) are still in process.
Ylian began innovating long before joining Intel.
For example, Ylian is the inventor of a patented IC internal combustion rotary engine
www.quasiturbine.com US Patent #6,164,263
which was a semi-finalist in the 2000 Discover Magazine Innovation Award quasiturbine.promci.qc.ca/EQTDiscoverAward00.htm
.
In his early career, Ylian was also the author of several original shareware games,
some of which are still very popular qt.conceptech.qc.ca/software .
He also developed several invisible shareware C++ components which are still in wide use.
In early 1997, Ylian developed a remarkable implementation of the SNMP V3 standard
which has been the object of several international communications (Washington, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Paris France, Athens Greece...)
and was widely promoted on the net, see www.teleinfo.uqam.ca/Francais/publi.html
.
He also made a international 3 months assignment on this matter at the École Nationale Supérieure de Télécommunication in Paris France.
Ylian joined Intel in 1998 after completing his Masters degree in Computer Science at the University of Quebec in Montreal.
Ylian quickly became a key individual on a network security (IPsec) project.
A large amount of his network and cryptographic work is bundled with every Intel network card currently sold on the market
(Example: Intel Pro/100S). As part of this work, Ylian wrote many internal and external documents, including a key paper in titled
"Scalable Deployment of IPsec in Corporate Intranets" (ftp://download.intel.com/ial/home/ibbi/ipsec_122.pdf
).
Later at Intel, Ylian went on to develop key innovations in wireless intra and inter-network roaming,
which was the starting point of Intel's work in this rapidly growing area allowing devices to roam within a network
and from one network to another quickly and with the highest possible performance.
Still at Intel, Ylian is currently hard at work on computer-attached devices within the home, one of Intel's key growth areas.
As part of this work, Ylian has made many of his most significant contributions yet,
developing a framework that allows Intel to rapidly prototype and build devices that will extend the reach of the PC in the home
by leveraging the processing power of the PC and the connectivity of a wired or wireless home network.
Ylian has demonstrated continuous innovation in his career, including development of the
Quasiturbine engine
and a variety of new software technologies.
His constant innovation during his 3 years at Intel has resulted in over 30 patent filings.
Intel has launched several new initiatives based on his inventions.
In addition to his Intel achievements, Ylian spent 7 years in the Canadian Air Cadets
and is a qualified active commercial multi-engine airplane pilot.
Ylian is also co-author of a 292 page book on the Quasiturbine
(see press coverage and awards for this work at quasiturbine.promci.qc.ca/QTLivreFrancais.html
).
The Quasiturbine rotary engine is already recognized as an environmental solution
by Canada on their Government official site
strategis.ic.gc.ca/SSG/es32198e.html
and is more and more considered as part of the Kyoto Protocol solution.
Simultaneously with his work at Intel,
Ylian continues to work actively on his new engine with technical contributions and occasional media appearances.
As part of CES 2002, the Consumer Electronic's Show in Las
Vegas,
Ylian presented in an interview on TechTV at http://promci.qc.ca/ylian/techtv
its vision of the CEL's Extended PC for Intel Connected & Extended PC Lab.
A personal computer that could drive, in addition to the computer's desktop,
many home appliances.
Ylian's resume can be found at quasiturbine.promci.qc.ca/ylianCVeng.html
Ylian has won a number of internal awards at Intel, including the first prize
out of 44 projects at the Nov. 6, 2001 Country Fair.
He is also a past recipient of the Montreal's Chamber of Commerce "Leaders of Tomorrow" award.
Ylian has a permanent US working permit, and is due to get his US Green Card shortly.
According to the 2001 annual review of the Journal La Presse
du Québec, and The Montréal Gazette,
the "Ylian Saint-Hilaire and the Quasiturbine" is a duo to watch in
year 2002
http://quasiturbine.promci.qc.ca/PresseGazette011231.html
Ylian's work is promoted in PC World March 28th 2003, page 28

Techniques for configuring network security include obtaining non-packet flow information, evaluating a policy rule based on the obtained information, and proposing a security arrangement based on the evaluation. The non-packet flow information can include, for example, authentication information obtained during an Internet Key Exchange protocol session or information obtained from a layered service provider. Therefore, policies such as Internet Protocol security (IPsec) policies can be defined and implemented so that they more accurately reflect the network's security requirements. |

A pair of shorter range radio frequency networks may be linked together using a longer range communication protocol that is not based on the same radio frequency protocol utilized by the shorter range radio frequency networks. Enumeration data from one of the shorter range networks may be exchanged over a longer range network to combine the two shorter range networks using proxy devices such as cellular telephones. This may allow devices in a shorter range network to communicate over a longer range. |

The Quasiturbine (Qurbine in short) uses a rotor arrangement peripherally supported by four rolling carriages, the carriages taking the pivoting blade pressure-load, of the blades forming the rotor, and transferring the load to theopposite contoured housing wall. The present invention discloses a central, annular, rotor support for the geometry defined by the pivoting blades and associated wheelbearings, while still maintaining the important center-free engine characteristic. The pressure-load on each pivoting blade is taken either by its own set of wheel-bearings rolling on annular tracks attached to the central area of lateral side covers forming part of the casing, or is cancelled out in symmetrically pressurized fluid energy converter m... |

Systems and methods of discovering devices on a plug and play network provide for enhanced network performance. Initial discovery messages can be adapted based on predetermined characteristics of access points such as the access point being associated with a high loss connection to a network node and the access point being associated with a congested environment with regard to discovery traffic. In one approach, initial discovery messages are transmitted over a wireless connection in unicast so that error correction is implemented. Other approaches involve storing notification messages at access points to minimize discovery traffic, and transmitting initial discovery messages at the lowest available transmission rate to eliminate the need f... |
